DCS — Dynamic Cooking Systems — was founded in Huntington Beach in 1989 and built commercial-style cooking equipment for home kitchens long before that was fashionable. Plenty of Los Angeles kitchens still run a DCS range or rangetop from that era, and they are worth keeping: heavy-gauge steel, burners designed to be rebuilt rather than replaced, and parts that still come through Fisher & Paykel, which has owned the brand since 2004.

Common DCS problems we fix
Most DCS equipment we see in Los Angeles is fifteen to thirty years old, which changes the job: the mechanics are sound and the wear is predictable. Igniters, electrodes, valves, burner assemblies and oven sensors are the standing repertoire, and we confirm availability against your model and serial number before quoting rather than after.
Burner will not light, or lights late
Where we look first:
- The spark electrode and its lead
- Burner ports blocked after a boil-over
DCS burners come apart properly, which is why a twenty-year-old rangetop is usually a clean and an electrode rather than a replacement.
Simmer that will not hold low
Where we look first:
- Valve adjustment at the low-flame stop
- The orifice, particularly after a fuel conversion
On these ranges it is more often a setting than a failure, and it is worth having set properly rather than cooking around it.
Oven off temperature
Where we look first:
- Temperature sensor drift
- Thermostat calibration
Measured with a calibrated probe in the cavity, not read off the display, and corrected on the same visit.
Oven will not ignite
Where we look first:
- The oven igniter, which weakens gradually
- The safety valve it is meant to open
An igniter can glow convincingly and still draw too little current to open the valve. It is the most common gas oven repair there is.

Are parts still available for older DCS ranges?
For most of the fleet, yes, through Fisher & Paykel. We check your model and serial number when you book so the truck arrives with the part rather than making a second trip.
Is a twenty-year-old DCS range worth repairing?
Usually. These are heavy mechanical appliances with rebuildable burners, and a repair is a small fraction of what a comparable pro range costs to replace and refit.
Can you convert a DCS range between natural gas and propane?
Where the manufacturer supplies a conversion kit for that model, yes. Without the correct kit it is not something we will improvise on a gas appliance.
